During a casual discussion with a neighbor, this topic popped up. My neighbor works for a company called Value Labs which takes care of Hewlett-Packard’s online portal snapfish. He told
me that they have big plans for India and they even launched snapfish.co.in to serve the Indian market. First I was skeptical about the quality of prints, etc. With his assurance, I placed my first online digital print order for 15 photos. I was amazed with their prompt service and the quality of the prints. I got it delivered within 3 days and paid about Rs.60 for the complete service. When I compared it with the local shop’s pricing, I ended up saving Rs.30 on this order. This made me realize the potential of this business.
This market is not new. There were players like PICSQUARE and iTASVEER from quite some time. But with new biggies spending huge amounts in this place like ZoomIn and Snapfish, users have lots of options to choose from. Let’s have a peek into some of the features:
Free Prints:
Most of these sites give you 10 free prints up on registration. ZoomIn gives 15 prints. PrintCamp gives you 10 prints if you refer your friends. You could do this easily in some sites as you get to refer them through your gmail/yahoo contact list. You would even get a free photo album if you order above 30 prints from PICSQUARE.
Pricing & Shipping:
Prices vary from site to site. In general, they charge you Rs.3 / $0.10 for a 4 X 6“ print. Shipping price starts from Rs.35 per 50 copies anywhere in India. iTASVEER offers free shipping on all orders above Rs.100. Some of these sites like Rangeela Photos offer shipping in USA as well.
Gift Items:
You can also print photos on T-shirts, mugs, calendars, etc. PICSQUARE offers you one free gift item upon booking two items. MeraSnap gives an option to write captions on the back of photo prints and also on gift items.
Unlimited Storage:
This is a standard feature for all the sites. PICSQUARE also has a special Personal Photo Site with which you can host all your photos in one place and share with your friends. It makes our job easier by offering Flickr and Picasa integration. Uploading photos to Snapfish was lot easier with their interface and Web 2.0 features.
With so many services on offer, it is difficult to decide on one to start our online digital journey. As a closing note, here is rating of these sites based on my personal experience:
